Bal Bhavan, Sitamarhi

Learning is for everyone. With this in mind, we support the Pt. Kanahya Lal Punj Bal Bhavan, a creative hub for our students as well as the residents of Sitamarhi.

Affiliated and sanctioned by the National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi, the Bal Bhavan in Sitamarhi originally started as a centre for children between 5 and 16 years. Today, it inspires and stimulates everyone from Sitamarhi and nearby villages to explore their creativity and improve their vocational skills.

Activities are constantly being added; those currently available include:

  • Arts & crafts
  • Sewing
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Photography
  • Doll Making
  • Electronic repairs
  • Clothes Designing
  • Beauty and Mehendi courses
  • Computer Education
  • ‘Learn Driving Centre’ - This is a great initiative to encourage older children and women from the village to become independent. As part of this activity, a cycle, motorbike and car are provided to help them learn how to drive.

Boys and girls have to pay Rs 50/- and Rs 30/- respectively for the courses at the Bal Bhavan. On the completion of these courses, certificates are awarded to everyone. In addition to this, the full fees of the course are returned to female students. This is an initiative to encourage more girls are to participate in the activities and complete vocational courses.

The success stories at Bal Bhavan continue to motivate people to be a part of the activities. Children from Sitamarhi have been participating in Creative Art and Creative Writing competitions organised by the National Bal Bhavan in New Delhi since 2009. Students have won scholarships of varying amounts for standing first in these competitions. Since April 2012, 550 village people have enrolled at the Bal Bhavan
